GCISD’s Special Olympics is hosting its annual Bocce Ball Tournament 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, April 25, at the Mustang Activity Center. The community is invited to attend and cheer on student-athletes or participate as a team. Each team will be matched with a GCISD Special Olympics athlete serving as team captain.

Future and current Pre-K families: Bring your little ones to Pre-K’s Tour a Truck event from 4-5 p.m., Tuesday, April 21, at Mustang Panther Stadium. This will be an opportunity to meet Pre-K staff, explore trucks and vehicles up close and meet community helpers.

A lemonade stand and ice cream sundaes made learning extra fun at Dove Elementary last week. As a culmination to their economics unit where they learned about earning, saving and spending money, the RISE class hosted a lemonade stand during recess, greeting customers and preparing each cup. Meanwhile, mastering multiplication facts was extra sweet for third graders who were treated to an ice cream sundae party, with the number of topping selections based on the number of facts they mastered. Way to make learning a treat!

What better way to celebrate learning all about idioms than illustrating them with a parade! That’s what Dove second grade did last week as students and staff dressed in figurative expressions.

Coach Bree Moody transformed Dove Elementary P.E. into a mini-golf course last week! While the students were busy sinking putts, they were actually mastering their "striking unit" that aligns to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) manipulative skills standards.

Congratulations to Colleyville Middle School, Cross Timbers Middle School, Grapevine Middle School, Heritage Middle School, and Grapevine High School for receiving Josten’s Yearbook of Excellence Award! The award is presented to schools that excel at making sure that every student is included, create a meaningful book that students want to purchase and meet yearbook deadlines.

The GCISD District Art Show is open now through April 22 at the Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB). The community is invited to see works of art by students from every GCISD campus. The show is open the same hours as the Grapevine CVB: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.

School Librarian Appreciation Day is Saturday, April 4, and we want to thank our librarians for all they do for our students. They play a huge role in children’s academic success and help our students become lifelong learners. Comment below and show our librarians how much they are appreciated!

Grapevine Middle School held a Month of the Military Child celebration Wednesday, April 1, where students were honored by the campus and the Daughters of the American Revolution for their family’s service to our country. GMS is recognized by the Texas Education Agency as a Purple Star Campus for meeting the needs of military-connected families.

Today, our elementary schools showed their creativity as they prepped students for upcoming state testing with Rockin’ Review! These are high impact, engaging instructional strategies to review material learned this school year. The fun included decorating hallways to set the stage for review, “Glow Day” class time and a construction theme focusing on skills students “built” this school year. Way to make learning fun!

Today was Literary Lunch Day at GCISD elementary schools! This is a way that GCISD Nutrition Services connects the classroom into the lunchroom. One student per grade who chose a plate lunch was randomly selected to receive this month’s book, “If You Give a Moose a Muffin,” a silly and delightful story about a moose whose snack turns into a big adventure. A complimentary book is also provided to each elementary school library.
