Many GCISD campuses participated in today’s national Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day. This event emphasized safe routes, crossing streets safely, and the importance of looking both ways. Our elementary P.E. classes also teamed up with our police departments who visited schools to talk about being safe on wheels and in crosswalks.

Grapevine High School's homecoming on Friday, October 3, was a huge night! It featured a special pre-game performance by the Fabulous Fillies celebrating their 50th year. During homecoming week, GHS Hall of Fame honorees were also inducted. Congratulations to Distinguished Alumni Honoree John Clinton Yancey, Sr. (Class of '66), and Faculty Honorees Josephine Herman Moore, GCISD’s first nurse, and Mary Calvert Humphrey, former English teacher, cheer coach and extracurricular sponsor, who is now Vice President on the Board of Trustees.

Delivering the game ball and participating in the coin toss at Friday Night Lights were Junior Captains Remington Ervin, Grapevine Elementary School pre-k student, and Kase Pullam, Cannon Elementary School second grader. They were welcomed by Ashley Elmore from the Grapevine-Colleyville Education Foundation, which sponsors the program.

Thank you to Firebirds Wood Fired Grill in Grapevine for its donation of 40 $25 gift cards to our first year teachers as a celebration for completing their first nine weeks of school. Human Resources is visiting campuses this week to make the deliveries.

Ms. Saum’s second grade class at Bear Creek Elementary earned a well-deserved Pizza Day on Friday, but it wasn’t just a party. It was a learning experience featuring pizza fractions and writing activities, plus great decorations. They were awarded the pizza party for filling their Cub Compliment Chart and also recognized by other teachers for their excellent hallway behavior.

Today is Instructional Coaches Day and also National Coach Day! Whether supporting an athletics team or a teacher, our coaches’ positivity, support and talent help make GCISD a better place. Join us in thanking them for everything they do! #WeAreGCISD

Before you head out to Grapevine High School’s homecoming game tonight, be sure to check the overflow parking options provided by GCISD Athletics: www.gcisd.net/page/athletics

It’s Experience Design Week at Silver Lake Elementary and this year’s theme is “Decades.” Three times a year, the school connects a theme into the standards and curriculum lessons already scheduled for the week. To make it more fun, staff and families decorate the hallways based on the theme. What a great experience!

Thank you to the Colleyville Chamber of Commerce for inviting Superintendent Dr. Brad Schnautz to speak at today’s luncheon about GCISD’s priorities, recent highlights and how GCISD prepares students for their future. Accompanying him was Colleyville Heritage High School senior Landyn Blueitt who shared her student journey and how her GCISD experience has provided her the skills for a bright future. #WeAreGCISD

ICYMI: Check out pictures from Grapevine High School’s homecoming parade yesterday. Fans attending the game Friday are encouraged to visit GCISD Athletics for ticket information, stadium guidelines and parking options: www.gcisd.net/page/athletics.

Today is School Custodian Appreciation Day! Our custodial crew keeps our facilities clean, healthy and ready for learning. Join us in celebrating them.

GCISD’s Transportation Department had the longest line at Grapevine Mills’ “Touch a Truck” event Saturday, September 27. Families were able to board a GCISD bus to check it out, and also were able to see transportation’s other large vehicles. Thank you to our team for giving up their Saturday to partner in this community event!

Yesterday and today, 360 Career and Technical Education seniors practiced one more important skill for landing jobs: interviewing. GCISD’s CTE program started this event last year to help students practice those soft skills that will open doors to future success. Thank you to all of our community volunteers who participated.

Grapevine High School’s homecoming parade is at 6 p.m. tonight through Grapevine’s Main Street. Come out for the celebration!

Happy Principals Month! GCISD is proud to celebrate all of our principals who always go above and beyond to help our students and staff succeed. Join us in celebrating them throughout October and every day. #WeAreGCISD

At last night’s meeting, Trustees recognized GCISD’s 19 National Merit Semifinalists. They received this honor for being among the highest-scoring students, representing less than one percent of seniors, who took the PSAT/NMSQT in November 2024. Semifinalists can continue in the competition to possibly be named a National Merit Finalist and earn one of 6,930 scholarships. Congratulations!

Shout out to Bear Creek Elementary School special education assistant Kent Bushart for two big wins at the state fair for his paper artistry. Kent’s Christmas table decoration won the Director’s Award, which is selected from all of the Arts & Crafts entries for superior craftsmanship and creativity. His other entry, depicting space, won Best in Show in the State Fair Category theme, which this year is Texas Shines Bright.

Enjoy pictures from Colleyville Heritage High School’s homecoming game on Friday! We also want to give special recognition to the Panteras who celebrated their 30th line with an alumni performance during pre-game.

Great job to our Junior Captains at Friday night’s game: Bransford Elementary School second grader Makayla Richardson and O.C. Taylor Elementary School fifth grader Raydaan Darediya. Thank you to Grapevine-Colleyville Education Foundation Vice President of Community Relations Chelsea Rose for giving our Junior Captains a warm welcome.
