At its December 15 Regular Monthly Meeting, the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD Board of Trustees approved Rick DeMasters as Interim Superintendent.
DeMasters has more than 30 years experience in Texas public schools, and most recently served as a superintendent in Celina ISD, where he retired in 2021. He also served as an assistant superintendent in Celina and Van Alstyne ISDs and as a principal in Celina, Shallowater and Dumas ISDs, leading campuses at all levels – elementary, middle and high. Prior to his time in administration, DeMasters was a teacher and coach in Vega and Karnack ISDs.
“Mr. DeMasters brings a great deal of experience and wisdom to lead the district and provide guidance and stability through this time of transition,” GCISD Board President Shannon Braun said. “We are excited to give him a warm welcome to the GCISD family and look forward to a close partnership as we pave the way for our next permanent leader.”
Throughout his tenure, districts under DeMasters’ leadership have raised academic performance, increased the fund balance and passed bond propositions and a voter approved tax ratification election. His educational philosophy is built on the conviction that every student has the ability to succeed when supported by excellent teaching, strong leadership and an engaged community.
“I am honored to serve as interim superintendent of Grapevine-Colleyville ISD and grateful for the Board’s confidence,” DeMasters said. “GCISD has a strong tradition of excellence, and I look forward to working closely with trustees, staff, families and the community to ensure stability, thoughtful leadership and a continued focus on what matters most – our students.”
DeMasters has a Bachelor of Science in Education from McMurry University, a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from West Texas A&M University, and a superintendent certification. He will begin the role of interim superintendent Wednesday, December 17.
