Because the acceleration process involves "skipping" classroom instruction for a grade level or course, students must demonstrate mastery of the math content above their current grade level for which he or she has not received any formal classroom instruction. Mastery is determinded by meeting the following district criterion:

Student enrolled in elementary grades K-5 must score 85% or higher on the exam to be considered for mathematics telescoping.

Student enrolled in grades 6-7 must score 80% or higher on the exam(s) to be considered for mathematics telescoping.
