On May 2, Colleyville Heritage High School and Grapevine High School competed at the Region 1-5A Track and Field Meet, where three student-athletes qualified for the UIL 5A State Championships.

GHS senior Andrew Deyoung won both the 3200 and 1600 meter regional championships with impressive times of 9:19.58 and 4:16.53. Last season, Deyoung finished in sixth place in the 3200m at state. Sophomore Grayson Richardson finished in second place in pole vault at regionals by achieving a height of 4.80 meters.

CHHS senior Audrey Popp finished in second place in the high jump with a height of 1.63 meters. Popp has previously won two district championships in this event along her way to this state appearance. 

The state meet will be at the Mike A. Myers Track & Soccer Stadium in Austin on Friday, May 15. Tickets can be purchased on the University of Texas’s athletics website. Streaming options are also available for purchase through the NFHS network website.
