GCISD debate teams from Colleyville Heritage High School and Grapevine High School brought home first, second and third places from the UIL 5A-District 6 Cross Examination (CX) Meet. The event was held Monday, February 9, at Argyle High School.
In CX debate, two-person teams debate in favor or against a policy. Teams take turns making their case and participating in cross examination periods, similar to lawyers cross examining witnesses in a courtroom. This year’s topic was “The United States federal government should significantly increase its exploration and/or development of the Arctic.”
GCISD teams placed as follows:
1st Place - Cameron Buhl and Grady Morris, CHHS
2nd Place - Piyush Mallick and Isabella Hu, GHS
3rd Place - Amelia Phoenix and Liam McGall, GHS

Mallick was named top speaker for the meet and GHS was awarded the CX Debate District Sweepstakes Award, presented to the school that accumulates the highest total points.
GCISD teams now advance to the UIL state tournament to be held at the University of Texas at Austin, March 20-21.
