As we prepare for the 2026-2027 school year, we wanted to remind our families of the updates that were made in February 2025 to our transfer policies – FDA(LOCAL) and FDB(LOCAL). Students who are not on a previously approved transfer will continue to attend their zoned campus for the remainder of their educational career in GCISD.

By applying the policy updates from last year to students in their current grade, please make note of the following for students who were on a transfer prior to the policy updates:

  • Current 9th-12th graders: These students may remain on their current transfer until graduation or return to their zoned campus. Transfers are frozen at the high school level.

  • Current 8th graders (transition year): These students who were on a transfer as of the 2024-2025 school year may apply for a transfer to one of the comprehensive high schools or attend their zoned campus. The families eligible for this transfer will receive individualized communication with information on next steps.

  • Current 6th-7th graders: These students who were on a transfer as of the 2024-2025 school year may remain on their current transfer until their 8th grade transition year or return to their zoned campus. Transfers are frozen at the middle school level until the transition year.

  • Current 5th graders: These students will attend their zoned middle school for the 2026-2027 school year.

  • Current 1st-4th graders: These students may remain on current transfer until transition year or return to zoned campus. Transfers are frozen at the elementary school level. After elementary, these students will attend their zoned middle school and follow their zoned trajectory until graduation.

  • Current 5th grade and 8th grade non-residents who were not grandfathered under the updated transfer policies and wish to continue in GCISD, but have not selected a pathway, will need to submit a non-resident transfer application.

  • The only resident transfer option open is to Cannon Elementary: A GCISD STEM School.

Any new non-resident transfer students will continue to follow designated pathway options, determined by the district based on staffing and capacity. With the consolidation of Dove Elementary beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, those designated pathways have been updated to the following options:

  • Silver Lake Elementary, Grapevine Middle School, Grapevine High School

  • Colleyville Elementary, Colleyville Middle School, Grapevine High School
