The following letter from Superintendent Dr. Brad Schnautz was shared with GCISD parents and staff on Friday, November 7, 2025.
GCISD Family,
First, I want to thank you all for your patience as we continue through the Education Master Planning Committee (EMPC) process. We have met two more times since I last sent a message, and today we have uploaded documents from those meetings.
Over these last few weeks, a facility rubric was evaluated and more scenarios and combinations of those scenarios have been studied, focusing on the feasibility of those scenarios. It is important to keep in mind that just because a campus fell in a certain area within the original rubric, it may not be feasible for that campus to be consolidated due to various factors as part of the feasibility analysis. There have been hours upon hours of in-depth discussions exploring countless data points, incorporating community feedback, and debating how we best reach the ultimate goal, which ensures that the decision made now is the most responsible and strengthens the educational opportunities and fiscal health of GCISD for generations to come.
All of this to say, the EMPC has taken its time, weighing every option and considering the deep impact each scenario would have on our students, staff, and community. Given the complexities of our district's needs and current realities, there is no single, perfect solution that will please everyone or solve every issue, but we must identify the best possible choice that places us on a path that offers the greatest benefit and stability for the future of GCISD.
While school consolidation will address facility underutilization and inefficiencies, it does not serve as the ultimate solution to all of the district's long-term financial challenges. Our commitment to fiscal responsibility and educational excellence is continuous, and I can assure you that the work does not stop here. Just as GCISD has continued to reduce operational expenditures and increase revenue over the past few years, school consolidation is another major step of part of an ongoing, dedicated effort to ensure GCISD's future success.
We appreciate your engagement and will continue to keep you informed.
Thank you,

Dr. Brad Schnautz
Superintendent
