GHS Sisters Win State

On Friday, May 16, Grapevine High School senior Emilia Gyorgy and sophomore Sara Gyorgy competed at the UIL 5A tennis state championship and won the doubles state title for the second year in a row. Along the way to the final, the Gyorgys defeated teams from Midlothian, Frisco Centennial and Frisco Independence in the finals.

“I'm very proud. This second title, I feel, was harder than the first one. Last year, they were simply a doubles team trying to win,” said GHS head tennis coach Kyler Apperson. “This year they were the clear favorites and both girls put a lot of pressure on themselves knowing this fact. In the end, they simply put in the work and it shows.”

Emilia Gyorgy is committed to Midwestern State University, where she will continue to play tennis at the collegiate level.

“Emi will be a great college player right away. Her doubles knowledge will automatically put her at the top of the lineup,” added Apperson.

Congratulations to the Gyorgy sisters on their state championship victory!
