Colleyville Heritage High School and Grapevine High School tennis players competed at the UIL 5A Region I Championship May 7-8, where five individuals qualified for the UIL 5A state championship.

CHHS senior Tobias Pfeiffer won the boys singles regional championship to become the fifth player in school history to qualify for the state tournament.

“This is a tremendous accomplishment for Tobias. He is a three-time regional qualifier with some very good runs in the past, but to win the whole tournament is a testament to his hard work and dedication over the past few years,” said CHHS head tennis coach Cody Dollar. “He has been a great tennis player for us during his high school career and it was great to finally see him put it all together.”

Pfeiffer’s sister Gretchen was also a state qualifier in 2017.

GHS juniors Connor Isbell and Noah Malin won the boys doubles regional title, making it their second postseason championship this season.

“I am very proud of Noah and Connor. Noah won district the past two years in singles but seemed to put a large amount of pressure on himself at regionals,” said GHS head tennis coach Kyle Apperson. “This year, we agreed he would simply have fun with Connor and the results speak for themselves. Connor is a very good doubles player and let's see what happens this week.”

GHS senior Emilia Gyorgy and sophomore Sara Gyorgy won their second straight regional championship in the girls doubles competition. The Gyorgys are the current defending state champions in girls doubles. “They are the favorites to do so again. Let's see how they respond," said Apperson about the Gyorgy sisters.

All five individuals will be heading to Northside Tennis Center (12045 Leslie Rd, Helotes) to compete in their respective events on May 15-16.

Congratulations to our tennis GCISD student athletes!
