Grapevine High School and Colleyville Heritage High School baseball teams began their 2025 postseason journey in a best-of-three series during the bi-district round of the UIL 5A playoffs in their respective divisions, and both teams are moving to the next round.

GHS took on Brewer High School and started the series with a game one win, 7-3. Game two would be forced into extra innings after being tied 7-7.

Senior Collin Park started the 11th inning with a single and then stole second base to advance into scoring position. Senior Thomas Powers stepped up to bat and, after giving up two strikes, drove in Park to end the game on a walk-off single and clinched the series to advance to the next round.

“Thomas has been solid all year with two strikes, and he was good again that at-bat, with the two-strike single up the middle,” said GHS head baseball coach Jimmy Webster.

CHHS faced Granbury High School and dropped game one 4-2. Facing elimination, junior Jobe Reed started on the mound in game two, where he pitched 11 strikeouts and a shutout while only allowing three hits the whole game. The Panthers won a close battle 1-0, to force it to a series-deciding game three.

“It’s tough to make a run without playing in an elimination game at some point. You have to get comfortable playing loose in an elimination game,” said CHHS head baseball coach Chris McMullen. “You can't play tight and worry about making a mistake. Don't try to play perfect. Go out, play aggressively and enjoy it. The players did just that and glad we came out on top.”

In game three, the Panthers won 4-0, while pitching another shutout due to a combined effort by sophomore Ethan Jackson and senior Regan Kelly.

Both teams advanced to the area round of the playoffs, which will begin Thursday, May 8. GHS will play Joshua High School and CHHS will play Paschal High School. Congratulations to both schools!
