The following letter from Superintendent Dr. Schnautz was shared with GCISD parents and staff on Tuesday, May 6.
GCISD Families and Staff,
Like many of you, we have been closely monitoring progress of the 89th Legislative Session, particularly following the passage of House Bill 2 on April 16. This crucial bill would raise the basic allotment by $395, and provide additional funding in special education and safety and security – funding that is desperately needed for public schools across the state.
Unfortunately, House Bill 2 moved to the Senate Education Committee, where it has remained without a hearing.
It is now critical that our state senators hear directly from you about the importance of this bill and the need to pass House Bill 2 during this legislative session in its current form. With less than a month left in the session, time is of the essence.
We urge you to contact Senator Tan Parker, who represents the GCISD area and also serves on the Senate Education Committee, via email at tan.parker@senate.texas.gov or by phone at (512)463-0112. We also encourage you to reach out to other members of the Senate Education Committee which includes Chair Brandon Creighton, Vice-Chair Donna Campbell, and Members Paul Bettencourt, Brent Hagenbuch, Adam Hinojosa, Phil King, José Menéndez, Mayes Middleton, Angela Paxton and Royce West.
Thank you for your continued partnership and advocacy for our public schools. Your voice makes a difference.
Dr. Brad Schnautz
Superintendent
