Board of Trustees

The GCISD School Board oversees the management of the district and ensures that the superintendent implements and monitors district operations. The Board and the superintendent work together as a team of eight to translate the needs of students into policies, plans and goals that will be supported by the community.

The Board is also committed to good governance best practices such as, but not limited to:

  • Utilizing a scorecard to track progress in (at least) two ways:

    • District scorecard monthly report on Board approved strategic objectives.

    • Board progress monitoring of results from good governance inventory. This inventory may be utilized initially in 6 month time horizons, with an eventual minimum expectation of annual update.

  • Systematically monitoring team trust utilizing a neutral/third party when needed.

  • Clarity surrounding the difference(s) between the role of the Superintendent and the role of the Board.

  • Commitment to asking good questions that are aligned to the strategic role rather than the tactical role.

  • The Board of Trustees will set expectations for a mindset of continuous improvement for our Superintendent and Leadership Team.

Letters from the Board

Each month throughout the school year, a member of the GCISD Board of Trustees sends out a Letter from the Board. This letter aims to connect the trustees through the community, share district news, give clarity on policy updates and include important celebrations.

Board Notes

To continue building on the Board's efforts to keep the community informed, GCISD sends monthly newsletters with reports and updates from Board Meetings. These messages are sent within the week of the regular monthly meetings and provide the community with an overview of information presented and action taken by the Board.
