Third grader Timothy Tu and fourth grader Ansh Badhey, both Glenhope students, were named National Math Stars. They were among only 618 selected across the country for demonstrating a 1-in-1000 talent and aptitude for math from a pool of nearly 9,000 applicants.
Applicants complete a multi-stage evaluation process that assesses each student's mathematical aptitude, eagerness for deeper STEM exploration, and the program's potential impact on their trajectory. While students are nominated to apply through teachers, schools, districts, or NMS partnerships with state DOEs, applications are open to all learners in active states who meet NMS criteria.
NMS places learners into one of two programs: Pathfinder Stars or Voyager Stars. GCISD’s two students are both in the Pathfinder Stars program.
Pathfinder is a 10-year program that supports and inspires our Stars’ mathematical journeys from as early as second grade through the end of high school.
Pathfinder Stars and their families gain access to expert guidance from the National Math Stars team, fun and informational community gatherings, and a pool of need-based funds to pay for advanced STEM courses and camps.
