The following letter from Superintendent Dr. Brad Schnautz was shared with GCISD parents and staff on Friday, September 19.

GCISD Family,

I wanted to reach out to you to keep you updated as this week our Education Master Planning Committee (EMPC) met once again to continue their discussion and explored additional potential scenarios as they look to make recommendations to our Board of Trustees this fall.

Today, we have added those meeting documents, including the presentation slides, to our website, and I wanted to provide you with a little more context around those slides. This time, the committee explored many more scenarios. Some included very detailed information from our demographer, while more time is needed yet to gather the data for other scenarios. I believe that this set of slides shows that there are multiple options being explored and there is no simple solution. These scenarios are not an exhaustive list, but they do provide a solid framework for the committee’s decision-making process.

Also, this week we have added Frequently Asked Questions to the EMPC website. This list will continue to grow, especially once recommendations are finalized. However, what you will notice is that until recommendations have been made, our primary focus is to answer questions regarding the overall process of developing potential scenarios, contributing factors as to why the district is exploring campus consolidation, and what the district has already done to respond to the financial challenges we continue to face. Once recommendations are made, more specific questions will be added to address how the scenarios that do become realized will affect our staff, students and families, and the transition plan for those affected.

I appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue through this process, and I want to assure you that we remain committed to sharing updates to keep you informed.

Thank you,

Brad
