Recently, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) informed GCISD of a substantial reduction in its Title I, Part A federal grant funding for the 2025-2026 school year.

This reduction, combined with current financial challenges due to years of no increase in state funding, necessitates some changes in how support services are provided at Title I campuses, which included making adjustments in staffing. Previously, the GT specialist supported enrichment groups in addition to serving our GT students in a pull-out program. The adjustment will formally include supporting non-GT student groups identified for instructional enrichment/intervention.

While Title funds do not pay for the position of GT specialists, with the decrease of these Title funds, the district’s priority is that its campuses with the most students at risk will maintain or increase their level of support.
