New York Times
There were over 11,000 submissions to the New York Times' 3rd annual personal narrative contest. Of those, 202 were selected as finalists. GCISD student Kayla Tran's narrative, "Lost in Wonderland" was selected as one of those finalists. You can read Kayla's full piece here. New York Times: Coming of Age in 2020
There were 5,500 submissions nationwide to the New York Times' contest, Coming of Age in 2020. Of those, 245 were selected as finalists, and GCISD ASPIRE freshmen made up six of those finalists. One GCISD student, Anisha, was then selected as one of the 35 "Featured Finalists" published in the newspaper in March 2021. Below is a list of all GCISD finalists, as well as links to their pieces.

New York Times: Student Editorial
There were 11,202 submissions worldwide to the The New York Times's 2021 editorial contest. Of those, there were 10 winners, 16 runners-up and 26 honorable mentions. GCISD student Mary Schnautz's editorial "The Adverse Pitfalls of AP Classes" was selected as one of the 16 runners-up. You can read her work here. The piece was published here.
