GCISD employs three types of teams to oversee and manage emergency events as well as plan the District's emergency response and preparations for events

School Safety and Security Committee
The GCISD School Safety and Security Committee is comprised of police, fire and emergency management representatives from local government, as well as parents, Trustees and campus staff. The primary responsibilities assigned to this committee include:

• Oversight of planning and preparedness

• Review of the District and campus emergency multihazard operations plans and associated annexes

• Review of safety audit information and discussion of major incidents

• Guidance on areas for improvement

Emergency Operations Team
The GCISD Emergency Operations Team is comprised of key department leaders in the District that are tasked with elements of response based on the National Incident Management System (NIMS) response protocol. Many of the members are also members of the School Safety and Security Committee. This team:

• Activates the emergency operations center

• Coordinates with municipal police, fire and emergency management personnel

• Supports campus administrators with managing emergency events

• Conducts after-action reviews for any District-level involved event or drill

• Oversees drills in the District

Campus Emergency Operations Team
Every GCISD campus has an active emergency operations team that is comprised of various campus personnel that are trained in NIMS. This team:

• Reviews and updates emergency operations plans

• Conducts campus safety audits

• Performs drills

• Conducts after-action reviews for any district-level involved event or drill

In GCISD, all District staff are empowered to report any safety or security issues to campus administrators and the Director of Emergency Management and School Security. Many centrally-deployed staff members are frequently on campus and can assist with notifying these administrators of issues.

Additionally, larger departments have safety and emergency procedures for their operations to either support campus or District emergency events or safeguard their operations. Examples include transportation services, nutrition services, extended day programs, facility services, athletics, fine arts, counseling services, technology, etc.
