District of Innovation
The District of Innovation concept, passed by the 84th Legislative Session in House Bill 1842, gives traditional independent school districts most of the flexibilities available to Texas’ open-enrollment charter schools. According to the Texas Association of School Boards, some of the items the district may choose to be exempt from include but are not limited to:
Uniform start date
Minimum minutes of instruction
Class size ratio
The 90 percent attendance rule
Teacher certification
