On May 2, Colleyville Heritage High School senior Matthew Udemba competed at the UIL 5A Track and Field State Championship and won the bronze medal in discus with a distance of 180 feet. Udemba is the first CHHS student-athlete to medal in discus at state since Lucas Williams won the state championship in 2022.
“He dedicated all his time to discus. Cold, rain, or sunshine, he was always working,” said CHHS head boys track & field coach Micah Kitchens. “As we got closer to state, you could see the laser-focused approach from him daily.”
Leading up to the state championship meet, Udemba won every single competition, including the regional, area and district championships. Udemba also recently committed to Abilene Christian University in discus to continue his athletic and academic career.
CHHS senior Devin Payne finished in sixth place in the 300m hurdles and GHS junior Andrew DeYoung also finished in sixth place in the 3200m.
Congratulations to our GCISD student-athletes!
