Trailblazer Wally Funk Visits Timberline Elementary
Posted on 10/21/2021

Students across GCISD, but especially those at Timberline Elementary, were visited by a one-of-a-kind, special guest earlier this week when Wally Funk came to campus. In July, Funk became the oldest person at the time to travel to space when she went up on Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket with Jeff Bezos.

The trailblazing astronaut is a Grapevine resident and was greeted outside of Timberline by the entire student body. She visited in-person with the school’s 4th-grade students, sharing her life story and advice. Her talk was also live streamed into classrooms all over the District.

“I think the message she brings to Timberline and all of GCISD is to go for your dreams, put your mind to it and set high goals for yourself,” said Timberline principal Liz Hilcher. “That’s right in line with what we believe, and she is another example of how our community works with us to build excellent schools together.”
