Prep Work for Construction to Begin at Cannon Elementary

Last May, GCISD was very fortunate to have voters approve the 2016 Bond package, which included a new building for Cannon Elementary: A GCISD STEM School. Contractor activity is beginning as early as June 22 with the new building expected to open in August 2018.

Ahead of construction work, we wanted to give an update on what community members can expect to see at Cannon this summer. Initial site work will focus on site fencing, which will be placed along the north side of the Cannon property. As construction continues, additional fencing may be added to ensure the safety of students, staff, and Cannon visitors. Additionally, three portable classrooms will be placed in the east parking lot in preparation for the 2017-2018 school year. Finally, the demolition of the fifth-grade wing on the northwest side of the school is anticipated to begin in July 2017.

Per city ordinance, work hours at Cannon will be Monday-Friday 7 a.m.-7 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m-5 p.m. There will be no work performed on Sundays.

We are so excited about the commencement of work on Cannon and cannot wait for students, staff and families to experience the new building. Click here to see renderings of Cannon Elementary: A GCISD STEM School.
