At the regular Board meeting on Monday, May 20, Trustees approved Nicole Whiteside as the new principal of Silver Lake Elementary School. Whiteside is currently serving as the interim principal at Silver Lake Elementary.
“I am overjoyed to be returning to Silver Lake Elementary,” Whiteside said. “As campus principal, I look forward to continuing to serve the students, families and community. Silver Lake has an outstanding family culture where teachers nurture the whole student and I am lucky to be a part of that. I feel very proud to serve a district and campus that focus on support and growth for all.”
The search for a new principal for Silver Lake Elementary began in April when Dr. Shannon Cole accepted the role of Director of Professional Development with Irving ISD.
Whiteside has been the associate principal of instruction at Timberline Elementary since 2017. Before serving at Timberline, Whiteside served as the assistant principal at Silver Lake from 2015-2017. In this role, Whiteside facilitated positive behavior intervention and support, coordinated 504, served as campus testing coordinator and facilitated response to intervention.
From 2014-2015, Whiteside served in Irving ISD as an assistant principal at Farine Elementary, a dual-language campus. During this time she facilitated professional learning communities, community involvement, data talks and facilitated instructional development.
Prior to becoming a campus administrator, Whiteside was an academic specialist in Irving ISD where she acted as an instructional liaison and coach, professional learning community leader and assisted in lesson plan development. She served as a gifted and talented English teacher after beginning her career as a fourth and fifth-grade teacher in Irving ISD.
“Throughout her career in GCISD, Nicole has become a leader in championing innovative ways to partner with our school community,” said Dr. Robin Ryan, GCISD Superintendent. “We are excited to have Nicole return to Silver Lake Elementary in her new role as principal where she may continue to champion our students.”
Whiteside received her bachelor’s degree in education from Southern Methodist University and a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy from the University of Texas at Arlington. Whiteside will officially transition into this role on July 22.
