Grapevine-Colleyville ISD has partnered with the Medal of Honor Foundation and Society as part of the character development program for students. Medal of Honor recipients were invited to attend and participate in this week’s events as part of the Tribute to Valor Weekend across the DFW Metroplex.
To kick off the week, GCISD welcomed ten Medal of Honor Recipients for a special reception and dinner hosted by students, educators and leadership from across the District. Students were able to interact with Medal of Honor recipients over dinner and recipients enjoyed a performance from the Colleyville Heritage Ovation Jazz Choir.
On Friday, Professional BMX Rider Morgan Wade opened up the stage for Medal of Honor recipient Gary Littrell at Heritage Middle School and Grapevine Middle School. Littrell shared his story and spoke on the values of integrity and courage. GCISD students were able to ask questions around Wade and Littrell’s experiences.
Recipients were then invited to join CHHS and GHS students during a special screening of the 2007 GI Film Festival Award for Best Short Documentary, ‘Gary Sinise: Always Do a Little More’. The focus of the film was doing more for others and not forgetting about the sacrifices veterans have made. The film was followed by a panel discussion where students were able to submit questions and hear from our veterans.
