GCISD’s Collegiate Academy has been selected to take part in the Hamilton Education Program. As part of the program, Collegiate Academy juniors will take part in a 3- to 5-day curriculum about Alexander Hamilton and the Founding Era. The curriculum will culminate in the creation of a unique performance piece by each student.
In May, students will attend a special matinee presentation of the musical Hamilton. Prior to the matinee, students will take part in a panel with cast members and some will be selected to perform their pieces on stage.
The Hamilton Education Program was created in October 2015 when Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller and Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, The Rockefeller Foundation, the NYC Department of Education, and the Gilder Lehrman Institute announced an educational partnership to provide 20,000 NYC Title I public school students with the opportunity to see Hamilton on Broadway and integrate the show into classroom studies.
This educational initiative, now expanded to reach 250,000 students in Title I–eligible schools nationwide, will run through 2020, and is possible thanks to support from national and local donors, including The Rockefeller Foundation.
The program is part of the Gilder Lehrman Institute’s broader mission to improve the teaching and learning of American history. Thanks to the generous support of The Rockefeller Foundation, which helped launch the initial program and fund its national expansion, and many national and local donors, high school students in Title I schools in New York City, Chicago, and selected cities will each pay just a “Hamilton” ($10) to see the performance.
