The Summer Food Service Program provides free meals to all children age 18 and younger. These meals provide essential nutrients for active growing kids. Children need good nutrition year-round so they can learn, grow, and succeed in life. With nearly 2 million food-insecure children living in Texas, these healthy meals are vital to nourishing young Texans during the summer vacation.

The district's Summer Food Service Program is made possible by a federally funded, state-administered program through the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Program sponsors provide free meals to children at a central site and are reimbursed for the meals they serve through the USDA. This will be GCISD's 16th year to participate in the program.

Summer food program meal sites help children succeed by providing the nourishment they need to return to school in the fall ready to thrive. To participate in the free meal program, all kids have to do is show up at a serving site. This summer, GCISD will offer both in-person daily meal service and weekly curbside meal bundles.
