Advanced Academics COVID-19 Closure Updates

The below information was posted on March 26. For more information on GCISD's closure, visit the District's COVID-19 information page.

Elementary GT LEAD Parent Notification Update
Due to our school closure, the notification regarding elementary GT placement has been delayed from April 1, 2020 to April 24th, 2020. Parents of elementary students will receive an email regarding the campus placement committee's decision from the campus GT Specialist on April 24, 2020.

Elementary ASPIRE Academy Update

  • The district ASPIRE placement committee is meeting virtually for students in first, second, third, and fourth grades. As with in-person meetings, the committee members are considering every child very carefully. This is taking longer to do virtually, so the April 1st deadline to notify parents has been extended. The new deadline is Monday, April 27th, 2020.
  • Kindergarten and fifth grade students who have been placed in ASPIRE Academy next year will not need to accept this placement by April 1, 2020 as was previously communicated. The new deadline for families to notify the Advanced Academics Department of their decision is forthcoming. Please continue to check this page and/or the Advanced Academics website for updated information.

Secondary GT/ASPIRE Testing Update
Secondary students who were referred for GT testing have not been assessed yet. This testing will happen when GCISD schools reopen. When the Advanced Academics Department is able to determine when this testing will take place, a new timeline for placement committees and parent notification will be available. This is also true for secondary students who have been referred for possible placement in GCISD’s ASPIRE Academy.

Out-of-District Testing for ASPIRE Academy
Out-of-district testing (for students who live in GCISD or have established residency with GCISD but are NOT currently enrolled in GCISD) for ASPIRE Academy has been delayed indefinitely. The Advanced Academics Department will determine a new date once the District reopens.
