GCISD COVID-19 Testing Center

GCISD has been taking part in a statewide program funded by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) offering rapid COVID-19 antigen tests for our staff. We have now expanded this resource to all GCISD staff and GCISD students. The program allows symptomatic staff, symptomatic GCISD students, and those in quarantine to be tested and reduce the risk to our campuses.

Beginning Tuesday, March 30, GCISD staff and GCISD students will be able to utilize the GCISD Mustang Panther Stadium COVID-19 Testing Center.

What tests are used in this program?
This testing program uses rapid antigen tests that are completely funded by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and provide results in 15 minutes. They will be administered by a GCISD Registered Nurse. The test is administered using a nasal swab in the front area of the nostril. These tests have been shown to be highly accurate, with accuracy rates of 97-98% for symptomatic individuals.

Who will be tested and when?
We will ONLY be offering these tests to GCISD staff and GCISD students. These tests are optional and we will have a limited number of tests per week. Due to the limited number of tests, GCISD will ONLY test individuals who are currently experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19, or who are currently in quarantine.

How will the information from the tests be used?
Staff and students will receive test results within 15 minutes and will also receive a confirmation email within 24 hours. If the test results in a positive, the results will also be shared with the campus nurse, the GCISD Director of Health Services, and with Tarrant County Public Health to allow for public health reporting, contact tracing, and to determine the stay-at-home period. Additionally, the total number of positive tests will also be shared with the Texas Department of State Health Services as is required by law.

What steps are required to participate in the program?
The testing site will be open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., however an appointment will be required for visits after 8:30 a.m. No appointment is required for symptomatic employees or students to be tested prior to 8:30 a.m.

Employees in quarantine and parents of students in quarantine looking to end their quarantine after 7 days should email covidtesting@gcisd.net to schedule an appointment for their 7th day of quarantine.

Symptomatic employees or parents with symptomatic students can drive to the testing site at the South Ticket Booth of Mustang Panther Stadium (near the scoreboard) any time Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 am. As a courtesy, please call 817-305-4769 to let the testing team know you plan to come. The testing site is a drive-through and employees and students will need to stay in their vehicle and look for directional signs.

Employees and students can also be referred by the campus nurse or self-referred by sending an email to covidtesting@gcisd.net with your name, symptoms you are experiencing, date symptoms started, and a cell number. You will be contacted by phone to schedule an appointment for a time slot Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Every employee and parent will be required to fill out a consent form AND utilize the QR Code or visit the link below to fill out the information specific to the BinaxNow Test.

Students who receive results from the testing site need to do the following:

  • For a Positive Test - The employee or student will quarantine for 10 days from symptom onset. The campus will begin contact tracing. Staff Absences are individually discussed with GCISD Human Resources.
  • For a Negative Test - The employee/student determines if they are well enough to go back to campus. All employees and students will need to return for a second test within 48 hours. Staff at the testing center will work with the employee/student to schedule a time for the second test.
    • If the employee/student does not have fever, vomiting, or diarrhea, and is able to return to campus with their current symptoms, they must follow the instructions given to them at the testing site until they return for their second test.
    • If one of the symptoms is fever, vomiting, or diarrhea, the employee/student must go home and remain home until their second test. Employees will need to contact their supervisor regarding the ability to work from home and contact HR regarding the absence.
    • If the employee/student does not feel they can work or be on campus with the symptoms they are experiencing, employees will need to contact their supervisor regarding the ability to work from home and contact HR regarding the absence and students will need to contact their campus.

If you have additional questions, please contact your campus nurse.
