AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a 6th through 12th-grade elective course and school-wide support system designed to prepare students for college success. AVID has a proven track record nationwide for both bringing out the very best in individuals and ensuring that they are eligible and ready to enter a four-year college or university after high school graduation.

The mission of AVID is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. AVID focuses on writing, inquiry, collaboration, reading, and strategies for success that include organization, time management, and study skills. The AVID schoolwide system is a campus-wide college readiness support system that will work hand-in-hand with content courses to prepare students for challenging, rigorous work. A select group of students in grades 6-12 in Grapevine-Colleyville ISD have the opportunity to enroll in the AVID College readiness class.

The AVID Elective Class

Additionally, AVID campuses offer an elective class where students engage in writing, inquiry, collaboration, and reading strategies to help them master rigorous academic content. High expectations are paired with strategies for success (such as note taking, time management, organization and goal setting) and in-class Socratic-inquiry tutorial sessions so that students excel in advanced courses and are prepared for the rigors of university work. AVID students become the model of college readiness.  Students must apply and interview to be in the AVID elective class. AVID Site Teams at each campus review student applications and interview students to determine students who meet the expectations and would benefit the most from the class. Participation in AVID is a high honor that any student would want to attain. Click here for more information about the AVID application process
