In 2010, GCISD set forth to develop a strategic plan which would guide the work of the District moving forward. More than 300 stakeholders, including students, parents, community members, teachers and administrators, were involved in the design of this 10-year plan known as LEAD 2021.

LEAD stands for Leading Excellence – Action Driven. It was a bold plan that impacted every aspect of GCISD – from instruction and technology to facilities and operations – through four core objectives and seven specific strategies. Implementation began in the 2011-2012 school year, working to transform the education experience in GCISD so that we are better preparing students for the world that awaits them now and in the future. The work of LEAD 2021 established a strong foundation for the work that followed. The following timeline showcases some of the highlights accomplished under LEAD 2021.

As progress toward the goals of LEAD 2021 continued, GCISD leaders recognized the need to begin articulating the next strategic plan. The District began to focus on making the transition to a new guiding vision that would build upon LEAD 2021 and bring focus to our greatest opportunities for improvement.

In April 2018, work began on the next iteration of the strategic plan, called LEAD 2.0. Throughout the development process, more than 1,000 parents, students, staff and community members shared feedback, experiences and aspirations that helped frame our shared goals for the future.
