The Colleyville Heritage High School Panther Band and Diamonds Dance Guard recently completed the first undefeated season in school history and earned the title of National Champions at the USBands Nationals Competition held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
The band's competition show this season was entitled "Forbidden City" and featured music and visual effects from China, including a 60-foot Great Wall of China and 50-foot authentic Chinese Parade Dragon.
In prelims, the band earned a 97.25, which resulted in the title of Group IV National Champions. In finals, the band received a 97.2 which earned them the title of USBands Open Class National Champions.
The marching band competed in three different USBands competitions this season, and received first place in their class at each as well as earning first place in finals at each competition, against many larger band programs that have performed at the State Marching Contest in recent seasons. Other awards received this season include Best Music, Best Visual, Best General Effect, Best Color Guard and Best Percussion.
In addition to this program accomplishment, senior All-State Band member Seth Wood was recognized at the Finals Ceremony for receiving the inaugural USBands Student Music Scholarship, an award of $1,000 for his essay on how music and the band program at CHHS have impacted his life. Seth plans to pursue a music degree in college.
Additionally, this season the band was awarded it's fifth consecutive First Division Rating at the UIL Region Marching Competition.
