
Dr. David Arencibia, Principal of Colleyville Middle School has been selected to represent the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) as the Texas Principal of the Year. TASSP recognizes outstanding principals and assistant principals from the 20 regional Education Service Centers in the state. School administrators are nominated and chosen by their peers within their regions. Nominations are based upon exemplary performance and outstanding leadership.
As the Region 11 winner, Arencibia was eligible to compete for the honor of being named the Texas Principal of the Year. After being named a finalist, Arencibia was officially named TASSP’s Texas Principal of the Year on December 13. He is now eligible to compete for the title of National Principal of the Year through the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) as the Texas nominee.
Dr. David Arencibia has led Colleyville Middle School since 2016 and has 21 years of educational experience. He attended Harding University and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish degree with a minor in Kinesiology. He attended Texas A&M-Commerce University and was awarded a Masters of Science in Education, Curriculum and Instruction in Secondary and Higher Education. Arencibia later attended Walden University and earned his Doctorate in Teacher Leadership. He is credited with numerous achievements including TASSP 2021-22 Outstanding Middle School Principal of the Year, Region 11 Principal of the Year, and the 2016-17 Assistant Principal of the Year. Under his leadership, Colleyville Middle School was also designated as a “Texas School to Watch.”
“This award is a true honor to receive. The recognition is shared among the staff, students, district, and community that I have had the privilege of working and living in these past six years as the principal at Colleyville Middle School,” Arencibia said. “Personally, I know that we have some of the best students, teachers, support staff and community in the country, and this recognition is a direct reflection of their excellence. I am humbled to represent the state of Texas and the Grapevine-Colleyville community as the TASSP Middle School Principal of the Year and Texas nominee for National Principal of the Year.”
For Dr. Robin Ryan, Superintendent of GCISD, this honor is a direct reflection on the influence Arencibia has on the Colleyville Middle School community.
“When you walk into the halls of Colleyville Middle School, you can immediately feel the impact that Dr. Arencibia has on his students and staff, ” Ryan said. “He has built an amazing community throughout the campus. I am impressed by the way Dr. Arencibia leads CMS and I am very thrilled that his hard work is being recognized.”
Arencibia will be recognized during the Josten’s Night of the Stars Awards Dinner in June 2022 at the Austin Marriott Downtown Hotel and at the NASSP Principals recognition in September 2022 in Washington, D.C.
