Congresswoman Hosting Elementary and High School Art Contests

Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne, who represents the 24th Congressional District of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives, is hosting a pair of art contests for elementary and high school students. Elementary Art Showcase and Forum

The Elementary Art Showcase and Forum elementary students living in the 24th Congressional District of Texas. Students will have the opportunity to meet Congresswoman Van Duyne and be recognized for their artistic talents. Students will learn about the three branches of government: legislative, executive, and judicial, and discuss how they interpret the government through their theme-based artwork.

The theme is “The Sights of U.S. Capitol Hill” and each piece of artwork must be two-dimensional and no larger than 5 inches by 7 inches. Various mediums will be accepted.

To participate in the showcase, students must complete the Student Participation and Release Form (found at link above), send in a photo or digital copy of their artwork to Rachel Garcia ([email protected]) and bring their artwork in a standing frame to an in-person event that will take place in late April or early May. The deadline to register to participate is Friday, April 16, 2021.

Congressional Art Competition (High School)

The Congressional Art Competition is a nation-wide competition that is held each spring. The competition is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in our Congressional District. 

The Congressional Art Competition is open to high school students who reside in the 24th Congressional District of Texas. The Grand Prize Winner from our district's competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The exhibit in Washington will also include the winning artwork from all participating districts from around the country. The winning artwork is also featured on House.gov's Congressional Art Competition page

Artwork must be two-dimensional and each framed artwork can be no larger than 26 inches high, 26 inches wide, and 4 inches deep. Various mediums will be accepted.

To participate, students must complete the Student Release Form (found at Congressional Art Competition link above) and send in a photo or digital copy of their artwork to Rachel Garcia ([email protected]). The deadline to submit artwork for the competition is April 16, 2021.
