Earlier this week, the Boston Red Sox announced the hiring of Bianca Smith, making the Colleyville Heritage graduate the first Black woman to land a coaching job in professional baseball.
"Bianca is blazing a trail in the professional baseball world and setting a tremendous example for young women, not just in our community, but around the country.” said Dr. Robin Ryan, GCISD Superintendent. “GCISD is incredibly proud of her and wishes her the best in her new journey in the Boston Red Sox organization."
After graduating from CHHS in 2008, Smith went on to play softball at Dartmouth College. She is currently the hitting coach at Carroll University in Wisconsin, but will soon begin her new role as a development coach for position players at the Red Sox’s facility in Fort Myers, Florida. During her young career, Smith has also coached at the University of Dallas, Case Western Reserve University and interned with the Texas Rangers, Cincinnati Reds and Major League Baseball.
