The Colleyville Heritage High School esports team added to an already successful 2019-2020 with a second straight League of Legends Texas State Championship.

The Panthers won the inaugural championship in the fall, then made it a sweep of the school year with a win over Allen High School in the Spring 2020 Championship. A replay of the championship match can be watched here.

The team competed throughout the year against other Texas high school esports teams via PlayVS, the official esports partner of the NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations).

The GCISD Esports program was established in 2018 with over 75 student competing in the first year. Since that time, the growth of the program has doubled in students wanting to participate as well as campus locations.

Esports is a way to expand the opportunity for extracurricular activity to all students within GCISD. In its first year alone, the program discovered 70 percent of its students did not participate in any other campus activity.

The power of esports and the GCISD program goes beyond just the games. The program is one that is preparing students for a growing industry as well as focusing on skills such as communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking.
