Big Brothers Big Sisters and Grapevine-Colleyville ISD are expanding their partnership in community mentoring to include a pilot program at Collegiate Academy at Tarrant County College Northeast. Beginning in the 2017-2018 school year, Collegiate Academy will become the first campus in Tarrant County to pilot Mentor 2.0. In this model, every freshman attending Collegiate Academy will be provided with a mentor. Unlike the traditional program, in Mentor 2.0, mentors are only asked to meet in-person with their student once a month but are expected to communicate regularly online.
“We are so excited about the opportunity to pilot Mentor 2.0 at Collegiate Academy,” said Director Bobbe Knutz. “Our students have a rigorous course-load in which they are congruently completing high school and college coursework. While this provides its own unique challenges, it also provides opportunities for student growth and we are looking forward to watching our students navigate their unique experience with the guidance of a community mentor.”
As part of the Mentor 2.0 program addresses the collegiate experience, every mentor must have a college degree. While this program will begin in 2017-2018 with freshman, the program will progress with students and in four years, every Collegiate Academy Phoenix will have a college graduate mentor.
Interested participants in the Mentor 2.0 program are encouraged to attend an informational session on Tuesday, July 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the common area at Collegiate Academy located at 828 W. Harwood Rd. (Building NMPC) Hurst, TX 76054. To read more about the Mentor 2.0 program, click here.
