Grapevine High School softball has a new head coach as Trustees approved Angelina Curtis at the regular meeting on Monday, June 19. Curtis is currently an assistant softball coach at Coppell High School.
"I am beyond excited and proud to become a Lady Mustang!” Curtis said. “I am looking forward to building on the existing culture of softball not only at GHS but within the community. I can not wait to dive right in and get to work. I think I'm more excited for the first day of school than the students will ever be!"
Before beginning her teaching career, Curtis was a semi-professional softball player for the Grizzlies in Freising, Germany. During this time she played shortstop and outfielder while tutoring elementary students on the English language.
When Curtis returned to the states, she began as a volunteer softball coach with the City of Colleyville while working at Advantage Academy in Grand Prairie as a junior high volleyball, basketball and high school softball coach. In 2013 she became the head varsity softball coach at Westlake Academy where the team finished second in State for the first time in school history.
“Anytime we have the opportunity to bring in a coach that has some level of professional experience as a player, it is an added benefit for our student athletes,” GCISD Executive Director of Athletics Bryan Gerlich said. “We are excited to welcome Coach Curtis into her new role and we look forward to seeing her carry forward the softball program at Grapevine High School.”
Curtis graduated from education Sterling College in Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
