As police and school district officials have continued the investigation, I want to provide you with further information about Friday’s events:
- We have been able to confirm through security camera footage that a student used an outdoor rug to minimally prop open one of the doors to the cafeteria at GHS. We are conducting further inquiries as to why the sensor on this door did not alert staff that the door was open.
- After attempting to enter the cafeteria through another set of doors, the non-student was able to enter the building through the minimally propped door.
- At this time, the investigation has not revealed there was a specific plan to cause harm; however, all individuals involved have been charged with terroristic threat because the image of a gun on campus posted on Snapchat caused an immediate reaction from law enforcement and the District. These students will receive disciplinary consequences as allowed by Chapter 37 of the Texas Education Code which governs the Student Code of Conduct.
As with any incident that we experience in GCISD, we continue to have after-action reviews with our law enforcement partners, staff and students regarding the events of Friday.
I am sure many families had conversations over the weekend about this incident, especially the families of our Mustangs. In addition to the counseling support we provided on Friday and today, we will continue to support our students in any way necessary. If students at other campuses need support, we ask that they speak with a teacher about visiting with a counselor.
I want to praise the students and staff at Grapevine High School. We conduct emergency drills frequently, and it was evident in the way that our Mustangs responded on Friday. In a debrief with our emergency responders, Grapevine Police also praised the staff for their quick action when the lockdown was initiated. Teachers immediately got students and visitors into classrooms and behind locked doors in a matter of seconds.
Specifically, we are grateful for the numerous students who saw something and said something, as well as the staff members whose coordinated efforts helped locate and apprehend the suspects. I would also like to once again thank the Grapevine and Colleyville Police Departments, as well as the Grapevine Fire Department, for their swift response and for their continued partnership with Grapevine-Colleyville ISD.

Estamos llevando a cabo más investigaciones sobre por qué el sensor de esta puerta no alertó al personal de que la puerta estaba abierta.
- Después de que el individuo que no es estudiante intentó entrar a la cafetería por otras puertas, pudo entrar al edificio usando la puerta que estaba mínimamente abierta.
- Hasta este momento, la investigación no ha revelado que existiera un plan específico para causar daños; sin embargo, todas las personas involucradas han sido acusadas de amenaza terrorista porque la imagen de un arma en la escuela que fue publicada en Snapchat causó una reacción inmediata con las autoridades de la policía y del distrito. Estoy seguro que muchas familias tuvieron conversaciones durante el fin de semana sobre este incidente, especialmente las familias con estudiantes en la preparatoria Grapevine. Además del apoyo de consejería que brindamos el viernes y hoy, continuaremos apoyando a nuestros estudiantes de cualquier modo que sea necesario. Si los estudiantes de otras escuelas necesitan apoyo, les pedimos que hablen con un maestro acerca de visitar a un consejero.
Quiero elogiar a los estudiantes y al personal de la preparatoria Grapevine. Con frecuencia se llevan a cabo simulacros de emergencia y esto fue evidente en la forma en que nuestros estudiantes respondieron el viernes. Durante una junta que tuvimos con nuestros servicios de emergencia, la policía de Grapevine también elogió al personal por su acción rápida cuando se inició el cierre de emergencia. Los maestros inmediatamente metieron a los estudiantes y a los visitantes en los salones de clases y cerraron las puertas con llave en cuestión de segundos.
Quedamos especialmente agradecidos con los numerosos estudiantes que vieron algo y dijeron algo, así como los integrantes del personal cuyos esfuerzos coordinados ayudaron a localizar y aprehender a los sospechosos. También me gustaría dar las gracias una vez más a los departamentos de policía de Grapevine y de Colleyville, así como al departamento de bomberos de Grapevine, por responder tan rápido y por su continua colaboración.
