Trustees approved Skip Carter as the principal of iUniversity Prep at the regular Board meeting on Monday, May 20. Carter is currently serving as an assistant principal in Northwest ISD.
“I am excited for this new opportunity to lead the innovative educational experience at iUniversity Prep,” Carter said. “This will allow me to make a difference not only for the students of GCISD but all across the State of Texas.”
Carter will work with the Director of Virtual Learning Dr. Kaye Rogers, to provide daily instructional leadership and manage school operation by working with parents, students, support staff and teachers to ensure the highest quality education and the best experience for the school community.
In addition to his role as assistant principal, Carter has also served as a secondary math coach in Northwest ISD. In this role, he mentored teachers through various types of coaching, monitored the implementation of district vetted curriculum and developed district-wide training. He also established a “Video Club” that encouraged growth in the best teaching practices through the tool of self-reflection.
From 2010-2016, Carter served as the mathematics department chair at Medlin Middle School in Northwest ISD. While in this role, he received the District Educator of the Year Award in 2014. As the department chair, Carter coached experienced and new teachers through observations, feedback and instructional rounds, assisted with hiring decisions and setting campus goals and planned professional development.
Carter was also the athletic coordinator at Ted Polk Middle School in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD from 2006-2010. During this time, he tailored parent communications to meet the needs of the community, guided and mentored coaches, organized large events, athletic tournaments and parent nights, developed and managed the budget and maintained a premier experience for athletes to excel in their sport. He served as a discipline coordinator prior to his position of athletic coordinator.
“Considering the continued growth of the virtual learning program in GCISD, we are excited to have Skip fill this role,” said Dr. Robin Ryan, GCISD Superintendent. “With the experience he is bringing to our District, I am excited to see what the future holds for iUniversity Prep and virtual learning.”
Carter received his bachelor’s degree in Science from Oklahoma State University and a master’s degree in education administration from Lamar University.
