A one-way
Dual Language program is offered at Cannon: A GCISD STEM School for Kindergarten and First Grade and a two-way Dual Language program is offered for Second through Fourth Grade. The Dual Language programs offered at Silver Lake Elementary and Timberline Elementary are Kindergarten through the Fifth Grade. This program focuses on the students’ ability to speak, read and write in Spanish and English. It emphasizes challenging standards in the core content areas while enriching students’ development in both their first and second languages. Students will be taught by both a bilingual certified teacher in Spanish and by an ESL certified teacher in English. The program is rigorous and requires at least a 6-year commitment. The curriculum is aligned with the Texas State Standards in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, as well as aligned with the district’s Lead 2021 initiatives.
