Classroom Writing Opportunities Guidelines
All students, K-5, will have opportunities to write a minimum of 30 minutes per day. These opportunities may be journaling, creative writing, or interactive writing in nature. The three purposes for writing (expressive, informative and persuasive) will be taught and practiced at all grade levels, K-5. The Bear Creek document “A Common Vocabulary for Teaching Writing” describes the writing process and each type of writing. It also includes a Writing Continuum for K-5. Teachers are expected to instruct the students using these guidelines.
