TAKS & Practice Links

This is a link to the At-Home Help & Practice webpage for our current textbook (published by McDougal-Littell).  It provides a variety of activities, from animated tutorials specific to certain chapters and sections, to sample tests and interactive practice worksheets that are graded as you proceed!

Our textbook has done a good job creating on-line supplements.  This website is very useful, and does a great job of teaching the concepts!  Studying for exams by using this website is highly reccommended!!!

Start practicing for the Math TAKS Test at home NOW!!!  It's never too soon to start reviewing the objectives!

THIS IS THE BEST RESOURCE THAT I HAVE FOUND FOR TAKS TUTORIALS!!!  THIS IS THE AT-HOME ON-LINE TAKS HELP THAT EVERY PARENT, STUDENT, AND TEACHER HAS BEEN LOOKING FOR!!!  The University of Texas has opened a website for TAKS tutoring called TRACK.  It offers tutorials for every TAKS subject (English, Math, Science, and Social Studies).  The site is ultimately directed towards students taking the 11th grade (exit level) TAKS test; however, I've looked through most of the tutorials, and they cover EVERYTHING covered on the 9th and 10th grade TAKS Tests as well.

TRACK is structured to identify a student's weaknesses with regards to specific TAKS objectives.  First, a student takes a practice TAKS test (called a TRACK Test).  The test is graded instantly, and the student may then see what he/she missed.  TRACK offers visually-interactive, clearly explained, text-and-video tutorials, along with practice problems and quizzes at the end of each tutorial (which are also graded and stored on the student's file).  The student can select which tutorials to work on first from a menu that shows which tutorials the student should focus on.  Or, if a student wishes to skip the TRACK Test, they may go straight to the tutorials as well (but the website will not be able to first identify weaknesses if the student does not take the TRACK Test).

The student must register first to set up an account--but it it completely free and completely confidential.  The website walks the user through the layout of the website, and the different ways that they may use TRACK to help them with TAKS.  To begin the practice tests and tutorials, click on the link "Get Started" at the top right corner of the page.

I highly recommend both parents and students taking some time to sit down and explore this resource.  THIS IS A REALLY REALLY COOL AND USEFUL SITE!!!

This is a link to the actual state-released study guide to the Math and Science TAKS Tests.  It is in .pdf format, and is rather large, so give it time to open.  The study guide is organized by objective:

This is a link to the TEA TAKS Information Booklet.  It is in .pdf format, so please make sure you have Adobe Reader installed on your computer (most do already).  This booklet lists each TAKS objective in order, and details in depth what each objective involves.  There are 10 total objectives, and it is important to become familiar with them, especially once I review with each student their individual TAKS strengths and weaknesses, as indicated by their performance on each objective on last year's test, and this year's benchmark exams.  Information on Objective 1 starts on page 16 of the document, and continues objective-by-objective until the end of the document:

This is a link to the Glencoe (our textbook publisher in previous years) Geometry Practice on-line.  It is organized somewhat differently from our current book, but the lessons and concepts are similar.  This website is still a good resource for practice.

Click on Geometry>Geometry: Concepts and Applications>2004 Edition>Standardized Test Practice.  The student can also check his/her progress by clicking on Self-Check Quizzes and/or Chapter Test instead of Standardized Test Practice.  This is a very useful site; the results can even be emailed to your teacher for review or proof of extra work!

You can also review the concepts we have been going over in class as well with the above link.  If you would like to do this, instead click on Geometry>Geometry>1998 Edition>Self-Check Quizzes.  Then select the current chapter, and then the specific section you would like to test your knowledge on.  This is a very, very useful study tool for our chapter tests!
