Texas Bluebonnet Books
The
Texas Bluebonnet Award was established in 1979 to encourage Texas children to
read and explore a variety of current books.
The
Texas Bluebonnet Award Committee, which serves as a committee of TLA, is responsible
for the selection of the master list. Books for consideration may be submitted
by librarians, teachers, parents, students, or others. The committee considers
all suggestions and determines selections based on appropriateness of content,
reputable reviews, literary quality, and reading level. Both fiction and non-fiction
books are represented.
Voting
is done in schools in January in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6. To be eligible to vote,
a student must have read (or heard read aloud) at least five of the current
master list of titles.
