Activities to enhance and extend learning in reading and/or math content areas are available in all grade levels. Extended Learning Experiences are scheduled by the classroom teacher in collaboration with the Gifted Specialist when needed. Students who pretest and show mastery on reading or math skills taught may participate in these classes.
ELE groups are flexible and student participation may change weekly/monthly based on student performance on district assessments, pretest of concepts/skills and additional grade level criteria.
Opportunities for ELE offered in reading include Junior Great Books, chapter books, award winning picture books, and non-fiction materials, activities that foster critical thinking, class discussion led by high level questioning and creative products based on the reading assignment. Opportunities for math ELE include "pull-out" sessions using hands-on activities and extension packets or "send-in" sessions where the Gifted Specialist teaches math extension activities with the regular classroom teacher.
