Your HMS Library has purchased subscriptions to some very valuable research databases. These are provided to students free of charge for use at school and home.

Please note that these are not search engines but extensive databases.

TexShare K-12 is a comprehensive on-line EBSCO package that provides students and educators access to multiple databases simultaneously through five interfaces: Searchasaurus, Kids Search, Student Research Center, EBSCO Host and though the new Grokker visual search tool.

It includes a variety of language arts, science, business, medical, military and government, philosophical resources, the Texas Reference Center and many more.  

It also offers thousands of full-text sources: magazines, newspapers, books, biographies, country/state/province reports, maps/photos/flags, web links, film/video,and radio/TV news transcripts, and audio/video files.  An interface for every level!

Worldbook is the premier online reference source--containing every article from the 22-volume print set plus thousands more. With animations, illustrations, pictures, and tables.  Also includes a dictionary and atlas.  Special section called Explore Texas that provides links to resources in World Book Online Reference Center related to Texas.  Spanish language version available as well.

The CultureGrams Online Database provides access to cultural reports for 187 countries and territories.  Each report includes 25 categories such as land and climate, history, personal appearance, greetings, gestures, family, diet, holidays, economy, education, health, and events and trends. 

Also included are reports each U.S. state and the District of Columbia complete with images, historical timeline, fun facts, and sections on history, population, “life as a kid”, and more. 

In addition, you'll have access to the Photo Gallery (over 600 images representing daily life in over 50 countries), Recipe Collection (5 recipes for each of 187 countries), and the Famous People Index (Short biographies on famous individuals from around the world).
