Mrs. Garetson—Who is she? I am a native of Iowa Falls, IA, where I lived for 16 years with my parents and younger brother, Geoff. I graduated from the University of Iowa in December 2001, with a BA in Elementary Education, and Spanish. While in college, I participated in the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, the Student Alumni Ambassadors, and Dance Marathon. I completed my student teaching in Des Moines, IA, and then worked as a substitute teacher during the spring of 2002. I moved to Grapevine, TX, in August 2002, to work in the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD at Heritage Middle School. I teach 6th grade language arts and I coach 7th and 8th grade girls athletics. In my free time, I enjoy playing volleyball, running, reading, watching movies, listening to music, bicycling, and shopping! Of course, I love spending time with my husband, KT, who also moved here from Iowa. He and I are busy these days enjoying our new baby girl, Gracie, who was born in June. I really enjoy teaching at Heritage Middle School. My favorite part of teaching is watching students become engaged in a story or book. I love when I have to ask a student more than once to put his/her book away—it pleases me to see how much enjoyment reading has brought to that student. |
