Simple Machines
LEONARDO'S MYSTERY MACHINES:
Students will be introduced to one of eight "mystery machines" invented by Leonardo da Vinci. After careful observation, they must then choose one of the buttons on the bottom that corresponds most closely with the invention.
MOTION, ENERGY, AND SIMPLE MACHINES:
With this comprehensive unit, students will become familiar with Newton's Laws of Motion, energy, and simple machines through a series of relevant experiments. The idea is to fully understand the concepts being presented through hands-on investigations.
SIMPLE MACHINES:
This lesson plan on simple machines for grades 4-8 aims to go beyond the normal approach, offering students a chance to understand simple machines by both dissecting their components, and then creating a working machine model.
SIMPLE MACHINES WEBQUEST:
Excellent internet resources on simple machines supplement this webquest, where students will be researching
the various functions of simple machines, solving problems, and then creating a collaborative book. Take a multimedia approach to the final student project with the use of Leonardo's Multimedia Toolbox, available at: http://www.riverdeep.net/special/3leoc/
GADGET ANATOMY:
Let your students test their knowledge of simple machines by identifying the various mechanisms at play in this interactive quiz.
